Student Food Drive
History
In 1969, Jesuit High School’s first Christmas Food Drive assisted 40 local families with food boxes and raised $350. Every year since then, the JHS student body has worked together to assist local families and individuals experiencing food insecurity. What started as a modest community service initiative has grown significantly over the decades.
Over the past many years, students, faculty, and staff consistently pack and deliver approximately 1,000 boxes of perishable and non-perishable food for 350-400 households. In addition, 1st period classes sponsor 75 of these families with Christmas gifts. Some multi-generational households served have included up to 15 people sharing a home.
The annual Student Food Drive has become one of the school's signature service projects, addressing food insecurity in the Portland area during the holiday season. Partners include Lifeworks NW, St. Vincent de Paul, St. Cecilia Parish, St. Andrew Catholic Church, and Beaverton School District.
