The Gatorade Company, today announced senior Trey Lowe '18 as its 2017-18 Oregon Football Player of the Year. Lowe was also recently selected to play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, where he will compete with the nation's top 100 high school players at the Alamodome on Jan. 6.
Lowe is the third Gatorade Oregon Football Player of the Year to be chosen from Jesuit High School in the 33-year history of the award, which recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field.
The senior running back and free safety rushed for 1,727 yards and 25 touchdowns on 135 carries this past season, leading the Crusaders (10-2) to the Class 6A state quarterfinals. Lowe also caught 26 passes for 589 yards and 10 scores. Defensively, he recorded five interceptions. He concluded his prep football career with 3,654 rushing yards, averaging 13.5 yards per carry.
"Trey Lowe is one of the best backs I have seen in my 22 years as a coach," said Jay Minyard, head coach of Sprague High. "He has a great blend of speed and physicality that is very rare in high school." He has verbally committed to play football on scholarship at the University of Washington in the fall of 2018.
As a Gatorade Player of the Year, Lowe will be able to select a national or local youth sports organization to receive a $1,000 grant as part of the Play It Forward program.
