Reflection on September 11

Today, we remember September 11. 21 years have passed since the tragedy that shook our nation and changed our world, but our memories of 9/11/01 focus us to pray, to connect with God, and to acknowledge lives lost in violence and in the act of trying to save others:

Let love be sincere; hate what is evil, hold on to what is good.
Rejoice in hope, endure in affliction, persevere in prayer.
Romans 12: 9, 12

Lord God of all:
We recognize this Sunday an anniversary
that calls us to a reflection on the life of our country.
21 years ago our hearts were burdened with an act of war
and a violence that stopped us all.
We have changed so much in those years
and we know You have walked with us.
May our hearts be moved and changed and
may our words promote peace and
instill love that will shape and form those around us.

In thanksgiving for those who constantly seek to protect us;
and for the lives lost in that endeavor.

Lord, we need You, we thank You, and may we be Your hope.

Amen.
