On this significant of United States observances, we pray in gratitude for those who paid the great price of their lives, in the advancement of freedom and in the protection of others. May their families and their friends who carry the grief of their lost lives be granted the reward of conflicts ended and the ultimate goal of their endeavor — peace.
We remember the members of our Jesuit High School Community who died while in the service of our country and those whose wounds from battle hastened their death later in life.
God of mercy,
destroy war and put down earthly pride.
Banish violence from our midst and wipe away our tears,
that we may all deserve to be called your sons and daughters.
Keep in your mercy those men and women
who have died in the cause of freedom
and bring them safely
into your kingdom of justice and peace.
We ask this though Jesus Christ our Lord.
