Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Today, we join our country to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. His profound message of unity, commitment to building a just society, and advocacy for equal opportunity continues to inspire us to live in service for, and with, others.

Dr. King's words have guided our theme for this academic year: "May our Mirrors Transform Into Windows" (Homily, August 11, 1957). Looking within, we see the blessings in our lives and the people who have lifted us up along the way. With a spirit of gratitude, we look outward and connect ourselves to a larger purpose. We find a deeper meaning for our lives, and we come into contact with the grace of Almighty God.

To honor Dr. King's life and legacy, the Jesuit community united over the past week to collect donations for the organization HomePlate Youth Services. Later this month, students will participate in an MLK Day assembly and discussions focused on human dignity and service.
