JHS Celebrates Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Today we celebrate and honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr. King, one of the most prominent leaders in the civil rights movement, devoted his life to a mission of justice, unity, and equality. His dedication to this mission continues to inspire us to be people with and for others. Dr. King’s profound legacy of justice, love, and faith impacts our world in countless ways, and each year on this day we are called to be mindful of how we can echo his words and actions in our own.

On April 16, 1963, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. wrote, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” At our annual MLK Assembly last Thursday, our students focused on this message. Jesuit's affinity groups came together to shine a light on the injustices impacting various groups in our communities. Our students were empowered to consider how they can take action against injustices.

Our BSU had a great time hosting the Black Student Unions from La Salle High School, Jefferson High School, St. Mary’s Academy, and Valley Catholic High School. It was a powerful day of connection and conversation.
