Jesuit's Ethics Bowl Team Clinches State Championship

Congratulations to Jesuit’s Ethics Bowl team who are state champions! Jesuit sent two teams to the Oregon High School Ethics Bowl competition on February 3. This year’s competition boasted 24 teams from around Oregon who engaged in a 3-match round-robin. Afterward, the top four scoring teams advanced to the semi-final round. Jesuit Team One – made up of Shonali Chakravarty ‘25, Annie Duan ‘25, Riya Girish ‘24, Ali Mo ‘24, and Ahana Naskar ‘26, coached by Dr. Jason Price – was the top overall qualifier and went on to win both their semi-final and final round to take home the state championship. Jesuit Team Two consisted of Maansi Singh ‘24, Sarah Thomas ‘26, Olive Brown ‘26, Sonali Kumar ‘24, and Winston Chan ‘25.

The teams have been reviewing ethical cases since the fall. They presented their perspectives on randomly assigned cases during the competition and engaged in open dialogues with opposing teams. The competition also required teams to field questions from a panel of judges that usually comprises philosophy professors, professionals working in public policy, and various other fields.

Team One advances to the Western Divisional Playoffs on February 10 where they will face the Washington state champions for a chance to advance to the national finals in April.
