Congratulations to the Jesuit Chess Team for their state championship win this weekend! After a challenging competition, the Varsity Chess Team (with the help of Mr. Al Kato, coach and adult leader) won first place in the 2024 Oregon High School Chess Team Association's (OHSCTA) State Championship. This championship win makes the team 4x State Champions (with wins in 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024)! In addition, shoutout to Havish Sripada, Roshen Nair, Ishaan Kodarapu, and Conner Jensen, who received individual first place board awards in their respective sections! The 2024 OHSCTA State Championship was a massive event in terms of participation, with a competitive field of players representing dozens of schools across the state.
Another big congratulations to the Jesuit JV Chess Team, which placed first in the JV Championship Section!
“I would like to appreciate Mr. Kato for all of his help with coaching us and being our adult leader in this event,” said Varsity Captain Roshen Nair ’24. “Without his help and constant support, we wouldn't have been able to compete in the state championship.”
Congratulations to Varsity Chess Team members, Roshen Nair, Havish Sripada, Ishaan Kodarapu, Conner Jensen, and Simon Ames, and JV Chess Team members, Manu Isaacs, Danny Mamchik, Anirudh Jagannathan, Arjun Agarwal, Mason Sloan, Aidan Chand, for this incredible accomplishment!
