Celebrating Lunar New Year

Celebrating Lunar New Year

To celebrate the Lunar New Year which began on Sunday, Asian Student Union and Chinese Culture Club put on an incredible dragon parade during Flex today. Students paraded the dragon all throughout campus, accompanied by percussion, which made for a fantastic show. They provided traditional red envelopes with gold coins in the HFSU, where there was also an opportunity for students to set their intentions for the New Year on sticky notes. The Lunar New Year is one of the most important holidays for our East and Southeast Asian communities. Each year in the Lunar calendar is represented by 12 zodiac animals: rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, rooster, dog, and pig. This year, we’re celebrating the year of the rabbit!
