56th Annual Food Drive Helps Hundreds of Local Families During the Holidays

Jesuit’s 56th annual Student Food Drive delivered nearly 900 food boxes to 350 local families experiencing food insecurity on December 19.

In the two weeks leading up to the Food Drive, students and staff collected food, raised more than $14,500 and purchased gifts for sponsored families. Students delivered gifts and food boxes to 70 families and food boxes only to another 280 families to households all over Portland, Beaverton, Tigard, Hillsboro, Gaston, Clackamas and Gresham.

Jesuit partners with Lifeworks NW, St. Vincent de Paul at St. Cecilia Catholic Church and several Beaverton elementary schools to find families needing assistance. Excess food was shared with St. Andrew Catholic Church food pantry.

“We’re addressing immediate needs and raising awareness about the ongoing issue of food insecurity in Oregon,” said Andrea Casey, Director of Jesuit’s Arrupe Center for Justice. “Our hope is that students understand this is a year-round challenge, not just a seasonal one.”

In addition to the student-led efforts, Jesuit High School alumni will be delivering 2,100 food boxes on December 21 from Jesuit’s student center. For more information and to volunteer, click here.
