Saturday Music Academy

The Saturday Music Academy is part of Jesuit High School's outreach programs to the community and our commitment to help all students have access to quality music education. Our Saturday Music Academy is free for all students currently attending a Catholic school.

Each Saturday Music Academy session meets every Saturday for 14 weeks culminating in a concert performance. There are four programs per session: beginning band, intermediate band, beginning strings, intermediate strings. Students are welcome to register for multiple programs per session. Each program meets for 50 minutes.

Fees & Costs

Tuition Fee

Each session (Fall, Spring, Summer) has a $140 tuition fee associated with it. This tuition fee covers the expenses of the program from the facilities to the instructional costs. As these fees pay for fixed expenses, such as our instructors, equipment, and facilities. Fees are non-refundable after the first day of class.

Tuition fees are waived for all students attending a Catholic School. If you do not attend a Catholic School but need financial assistance to participate, please contact Music Director Ken Hoffman to discuss options.

Instrumental Costs

Each student will need an instrument. These can be rented from many sources. Rental fees can run from $20/month to $100 /month, depending on the instrument. If you already own an instrument, Mr. Hoffman will be happy to evaluate it for you to make sure it’s “good to go.”  There are a very limited number of instruments available at Jesuit for use. We ask for a $50 rental charge per session to pay for cleaning when it is turned in. This charge may be waived for those having financial need.

*A special note about extremely inexpensive instruments found on sites such as Amazon, eBay, Craigslist, etc. or from a big box store such as Costco. While the initial cost is extremely attractive, the maintenance costs are very high. Some repair shops will decline to repair them due to the fragility of the metal used. They also may stifle the experience of the student as many play out-of-tune or are more difficult to play. Mr. Hoffman can help you find a relatively inexpensive alternative from reputable sources.

Additional Costs

Additional costs include things like the student’s lesson book, reeds for woodwind players, valve oil/slide care for brass players, sticks and mallets for percussion players, rosin for string players, rock stops for cello and bass players, and similar items. These costs can vary greatly depending on instrument. Generally, these costs might include:

  • Lesson Book, $10/year
  • Brass players, $10/year
  • Woodwind players, $40/year
  • String players, $40/year
