Counseling Department Updates

We are excited to announce that Christine Truszkowski, a longtime member of the Jesuit community who has been working this year as both a Spanish language teacher and a counselor, will be joining the Counseling Department full-time in the fall.

We will be restructuring student-counselor assignments in order to reduce counselor caseloads and further ensure that our students and families are being well served. Beginning in the fall, Ms. Strear will be supporting all entering freshmen while Mr. Barry, Mr. Lowery, Sra. Truszkowski, and Mr. Potter will work with sophomores through seniors. See who your student's new counselor will be below.

Try the Pomodoro Technique!

With the distractions of modern life, it's increasingly difficult to stay on task and be productive. Whether you are looking for new ways to study, focus on a personal project, or even work on college applications, the Pomodoro Technique might be a helpful tool.

Choose a single task to focus on. Set a timer for 25 minutes. Do your work. Take a 5-minute break (it's encouraged to take a walk or drink water!). You can repeat this three times and then take a longer 15-30 minute break.

Download one of several free apps to help you stay on track!

Transitioning to College

Making the transition from high school to college can be exciting, difficult, and take longer than expected. Some students might adjust in just a few weeks. For others, it can take months to adapt to the freedom and independence of college life.

No matter how long your transition to college might take, you can set yourself up for an easier and less stressful time by handling some important tasks before freshman year begins. Here are 10 things you can do this summer – aside from attending orientation and meeting your roommate – that will help prepare you for a successful freshman year. (College Data)

Sources of Strength Week 2023

Learn more about Sources of Strength

May 1-5 marked Jesuit's first Sources of Strength week. Sources of Strength focuses on hope, help and strength to break the silence around mental health support.

We started the week with a friendship bracelet station. On Tuesday, the students participated in healthy activities such as a nature walk, art activities and games. On Wednesday, students wrote thank you cards to trusted adults in their lives. On Thursday, two of our student leaders shared the story of their journey with Sources of Strength. We finished the week with a book drive for Project Lemonade. Thank you to all those who helped make the week a success!

In 2014, Naval Admiral William H. McRaven delivered a commencement speech at UT Austin. He then wrote the New York Times bestseller, Make Your Bed: Little Things That Can Change Your Life... And Maybe the World. It's an excellent book about leadership, but even more about being your very best in all situations.
