Dear Students, Parents and Guardians,
We received updated guidance on Statewide Recommendations for Travel this week from the Oregon Health Authority. Many members of our community are considering Spring Break plans, so we are sending this information, along with Jesuit's understanding of the OHA's new recommendations regarding quarantining after travel. The new guidelines state that Oregonians do not have to quarantine after "essential travel," but should do so after "non-essential travel."
Jesuit High trusts that students and parents will use good judgment and consider the safety of our entire community as they apply these definitions:
"Essential travel" means travel that is for the purposes of:
Jesuit has determined that we will not seek to distinguish between outdoor and indoor sports, especially as some sports (eg, volleyball) have been played both indoors and outdoors during this school year. We do, however, insist that all of our student-athletes follow proper protective procedures when participating in matches and when gathering with teammates and others outside of the athletic forum (especially masking, hand-washing, and social distancing).
"Non-essential travel" means travel that is for the purpose of tourism, recreation, or any other purpose that does not fit the definition of "essential travel"
Students are required to report non-essential travel to Jesuit Student Health Coordinator Jennifer Adams at jadams@jesuitportland.org
In such cases of non-essential travel, students are to follow one of the following options for quarantine:
OR
Quarantine recommendations no longer apply to individuals who meet the following criteria:
Those who have received both doses of a two-dose COVID-19 vaccine (or one dose of a single-dose vaccine if it becomes available) more than 14 days prior to returning to Oregon, and who have no symptoms of COVID-19. If a JHS student is fully vaccinated, and they plan to travel out of state, please send a copy of their vaccination card with both vaccination dates clearly visible to our Student Health Coordinator, Jennifer Adams, at jadams@jesuitportland.org. You may also fax a copy of the vaccination card to our school office at 503-291-5464.
As always, we urge you to follow CDC guidelines for social distancing, proper masking, and hygiene. When members of our community choose to gather in large groups or travel for non-essential purposes, we increase the chances of transmitting COVID-19 within the Jesuit community, and put at risk the opportunity for all of our students to be on campus. Please see my letter of February 19 regarding Summit High School for a sobering reminder of what can happen if we grow complacent.
Thank you for your continuing partnership and care for our commitment to our community during the challenges of this pandemic.
