Dear Alumni,

I wanted to share with you a statement of healing and reconciliation from our president, Tom Arndorfer, and principal, Paul Hogan, and a prayer that Tom said at Mass last week.

Two weeks ago, we held a virtual edition of our annual African-American Alumni and Student Luncheon, and our alumni shared powerful stories about their personal journeys and messages of inspiration with our students. Tiffany Alvarez Smith '03 shared these words, "Don't ever apologize for taking up space. Your voice should never be smaller than anyone else's."  Today, this wisdom resonates now more than ever.

Our world is at a tipping point. As the horrors of racism and a world of instantaneous social media collide, humanity has said "enough."

We can be better. We must be better. The time to listen, to educate, to become aware, to pray, to act and to love is now. In this time of great division, may we live out our Jesuit mission of solidarity with the oppressed and marginalized in our own communities, our nation, and our world. May we feel the love of God and each other as we come together to help heal the hearts of humanity.

Blessings and much aloha,
