Summer College Essay Program

Over the summer, rising seniors are required to complete the Summer College Essay Program, a self-paced Canvas course that will guide them through writing a draft of their college essays. The deadline for completing the program is 8:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 27.

To receive feedback on their writing, students are also able to conference with Mr. René Villareal via Zoom during the weeks of July 1-5, July 8-12, July 15-19, August 12-16, and August 19-23. Seniors are required to submit drafts of their college essays to their English teachers near the beginning of the school year. If you have questions, contact Mr. Villareal, Program Coordinator, at rvillareal@jesuitportland.org. For more information, see these Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) and video introduction.

For students who want a more structured classroom experience, Jesuit’s Summer Session One, which runs June 17-July 19, offers four College Essay Writing courses: two are in-person on Jesuit’s campus, and two are online via Zoom. Students who complete the College Essay Writing course in Summer Session One are exempt from completing the self-paced Summer College Essay Program on Canvas. For more information about the College Essay Writing courses in Summer Session One, see the Summer Session One catalog.
