The Jesuit High School Counseling Center is staffed with school counselors who are here to offer support and guidance to students in a safe environment. Together we have more than 50 years of experience working with Jesuit students. We are in a unique position to appreciate the high school journey of our students and the many challenges that arise during this phase of adolescent development.

What We Do

Work with students to plan a four-year course of study to prepare them for success in college and beyond
Address concerns regarding academic performance
Provide support for personal issues
Facilitate communications between students, parents, teachers, and administrators
Help with the college search and application process
Support students and their families with crisis intervention as needed
Provide referrals for outside therapists or assessments as needed

Confidentiality

In order to create an atmosphere of trust, we respect and honor the privacy rights of our students and recognize that our primary obligation for confidentiality is to the student. Students are informed that exceptions to confidentiality exist under certain circumstances in order to protect students, themselves, or others. More specifically, there can be no expectation of privacy under the following circumstances:

Student poses a danger to self or others
Court-ordered disclosure

Oregon state law further requires “[A]ny public or private official having reasonable cause to believe that any child with whom the official comes in contact has suffered abuse or that any person with whom the official comes in contact has abused a child shall immediately report or cause a report to be made …” (ORS 419B.010).

Students are encouraged to see their counselor whenever they need assistance. Students can request a counseling appointment by visiting the Counseling Center in person. A student can also email his/her counselor or call 503-291-5411 to request an appointment. For parents and guardians, please call or send an email to your student’s counselor to schedule an appointment.

Students in grades 10 through 12 are assigned a counselor based upon the student’s last name. All freshmen work with Ms. Strear, our Freshman Transition Counselor. Counselors provide ongoing support throughout a students four-year high school journey, including college advising through the winter of junior year.
