JHS Foundation

The Jesuit High School Foundation was created as an Oregon public benefit corporation under the Oregon Non-Profit Corporation Act. It is an independent legal entity that is not owned or managed by Jesuit High School. The foundation’s purpose is to enhance the religious, charitable, educational and literary purposes of Jesuit High School while also recognizing the specific wishes and intentions of any given donor.
The JHS Foundation is exempt from taxes under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Contributions to the foundation are deductible in the same manner as charitable gifts to the high school. The foundation is managed by a seven member Board of Directors separate from the school’s Board of Trustees. The foundation’s board meets twice yearly to manage the activities of the foundation and to make an annual donation to the school.
The foundation was established to accept new endowment gifts as of February 1, 2009. Previous endowment pledges made to the high school before that date will be retained by the school. All capital campaign gifts and requests for annual gifts will continue to go to the high school. All new endowment gifts will be directed to the foundation. Up to 4% of each endowment gift will be used for costs to administer the foundation. A small percentage of each year's earnings may be used to pay for the foundation's operating costs.
A strong endowment ensures that what we have today will be here tomorrow.
A strong endowment will ensure that we carry out in perpetuity the mission of Jesuit High School to educate the leaders of tomorrow. A donation to the Jesuit High School endowment is invested and the principal is never spent. The income from these gifts may be designated for a variety of purposes.
Behind each of these funds is a strong commitment to the future of this Jesuit institution. Whether created in honor of an inspiring teacher or coach, in memory of a loved one or in response to a need of the school, these funds share a common premise: you are saying you believe in Jesuit High School.
