Why does Jesuit High School need to raise this money? Jesuit High School is and always will be dependent on fundraising because we charge tuition less than the true cost of education to keep the school accessible. We begin each year with more than a $2,000,000 deficit.
For the 2009/10 academic year, Student Government has committed $50,000 to fund Jesuit’s financial aid efforts and to help update the Smith Gym, which many of you know has become the new home for our Friday liturgies. The Student Fundraiser also supports important school projects and events which include the following:
● Classroom Maps ● Ignatian Retreats ● Multi-Cultural Week Guest Speaker ● Student Day Planners ● Community 101 ● Knight Center Banners ● SAT & ACT Method test prep ● Video Editing Station ● Digital Recorders ● Link Crew ● Senior Grad Party ● Xerox Software
Will Jesuit ask the people I write to for more money in the future? If a person only gives to the Student Fundraiser, they will not be asked for other things in the future. People who already have a relationship with Jesuit, such as parents, past parents and alumni, are already in our database and are solicited for other annual needs.
Are there other alternatives to asking friends or relatives for money? Your student can earn the money from you, friends or relatives. Don't be tempted to just "write the check." Help your student understand the value of his or her education by assigning a job or chore which enables this fundraiser to have more meaning. If your student has a part time job, he/she could consider contributing all or part of the $100. Each year, a number of students participate in this way.
How much was raised in the fundraiser last year? In 2008-2009, Jesuit High School students raised $105,000, which helped reduce our budget deficit.
Our child attends a private school. Why should we ask our public school friends for support when it is our choice to attend Jesuit High School? For years, your tax dollars have funded your public school friends and their children's education. Catholic education will always depend on the generosity of many people; not just those who attend the school. People who understand and support our mission come from many sources. We need them and we cherish them.
How does the Internet letter work? There are complete step-by-step instructions online (Student Handbook) to guide your student through the letter writing process. Click here to review the Student Fundraiser Handbook. After the online process is complete, students' letters are electronically sent to the Development Office where we will print the letters. Third period teachers will still collect checks if this is the option your family selects as well as keep the class posted on their progress.
Does my student mail their own letters? No. If your student selects the online method, his/her letters will be sent to the Development Office via the Internet. A dedicated group of volunteers works with the Development Office to proof, print and mail the letters. We provide the postage. Students will sign their letters in their third period class during the second week of March. Inappropriate letters or incomplete addresses will be returned to the student for resubmission.
Will donors receive an acknowledgment for their gift? The President acknowledges all gifts to the school. All donors are also listed in the Annual Report. In May, we will mail a list of the people who responded to your student's letter positively. It is our hope that these donors receive a special thank you note from your student. In this way, students learn the full circle of fundraising and see the results of their efforts.
